Eyeliner, when used correctly, can open the eye, change its appearance and create extra fullness for thin lashes. It can make a bold fashion statement or be a subtle boost. Follow these steps to find the best eyeliner color for you.

Decide which type of eyeliner you need. A classic pencil creates a soft line and is fairly easy to work with. A gel or liquid eyeliner creates instant drama but requires precision and patience. A smudge proof, self sharpening eyeliner that glides well over the lid is probably the easiest to use and is also easy to find.
-
Factor in your current beauty regimen. If you’re low maintenance, opt for a neutral brown or taupe eyeliner. If you want to create full black lashes, go for a deep brown or classic black eyeliner. If you love makeup and have some time, invest in high quality eyeshadows and angled makeup brushes to do a wet application with shadow. If you fall somewhere in between, choose the eyeliner that best complements your eye color.
-
Choose an eyeliner that complements your eye color. Browns and plums compliment brown eyes, taupe and deep green compliment green eyes, sandy taupes and deep browns make blue eyes sparkle and if you have hazel eyes, pick the color you’d like to bring out and buy an eyeliner in the same hue or choose black to bring out all of the colors at once.
-
Experiment with metallic eyeliners and bold colors to change your look. Metallic eyeliners with neutral shadows are a good choice, or you could pick corresponding eyeshadows and eyeliner for a monochromatic effect. Avoid buying metallic pastels unless the eyeliner will be the major focus of your look.
-
Use white eyeliner or a soft metallic silver or gold to make your eyes look bigger and more open with any eyeliner color or by itself with black mascara. Apply the white eyeliner under the lower lid or on the interior upper and lower corner of the lid close to the lashline. Blend it with your finger or a brush into the lid for a more subtle effect.
